Intro
With a growing portfolio of customers and partners, Lonza’s IT team needed an efficient, simplified mechanism for managing more than 35 websites and other digital channels.
In 2020 Lonza implemented KeyShot Dock as their DAM solution to centralize all their assets in one platform, resulting in optimized processes for content distribution, efficiency gains and better collaboration across teams and with external parties.
Who is Lonza Group?
Lonza Group is an international provider of integrated healthcare solutions. With facilities in multiple countries and continents, Lonza works with organizations across the pharma, biotech and nutrition markets to develop products and solutions for people around the world.
With $4.5 billion in revenue, the company employs more than 16,000 employees and has offices throughout Europe, North America, and Asia.
We have a very specific aesthetic, so for anything that must be accessed and used externally, we have created collections that we can easily share with vendors, who are then able to choose the most relevant digital assets.”
The Challenge
Lonza Group is a multifaceted enterprise that offers product development, innovation, and manufacturing solutions. Officially, the company provides through four business areas – Small Molecules, Biologics, Cell & Gene, and Capsules & Health Ingredients.
With over 35 websites and sales and marketing teams spread across 30 countries, Lonza faced significant challenges managing its digital operations. By 2020, amid the global health crisis, the company’s digital teams reached a breaking point and required a unified technology strategy to optimize content and align their distributed workforce.
“Lonza had never had a central repository for all of its digital marketing and communication assets,” said Zachary Harding, Lonza’s global head of digital. “We managed 35 to 45 websites across multiple SharePoints, network drives, and Dropboxes, creating complications with data access and consistency.”
To meet rising global demand for healthcare products, Lonza needed a solution to streamline its content workflows, maintain consistency across digital channels, and unify its teams under consistent branding and messaging.
The Solution
In addition to having a centralized repository for all digital assets across its websites, Lonza required a platform that integrates seamlessly with Sitecore content management system (CMS). It also had to be a tool that could replace its Sitecore media library.
“This replacement was a primary goal because we faced challenges with management and physical storage in our existing media library,” Harding said and continues “Occasionally, we had to request additional storage, so reducing the need for localized storage would result in immediate efficiency. We understood that a full replacement would allow us to break even on our investment and optimize operational efficiency”.
As it turned out, KeyShot Dock met all Lonza Group’s requirements.
The Results
Digital Marketing
Harding’s team now has a single source of truth for all website assets and KeyShot Dock is more than just storage – its automation and workflow tools ensure that all website content is accurate, up-to-date, and compliant, a critical need in a highly regulated industry.
Marketers use KeyShot Dock to manage the entire content lifecycle, from creation to distribution. The platform streamlines collaboration, clarifies which assets are approved for use, and provides features like collections and permission controls, allowing marketers to access only the assets they need. This reduces errors, accelerates content distribution, and empowers teams to work independently and complete more projects in less time.
KeyShot Dock has also simplified managing external creative and branding agencies.
“For instance, our Brand and Design group works with agencies on banner ads and other digital assets,” Harding said. “We’ve created collections that vendors can access to select the most relevant assets, ensuring consistency with our aesthetic”.
Sales
Lonza’s sales teams and distribution partners benefit from having a unified platform to access information and materials, leading to smoother sales cycles and faster deal closures.
“Our DAM allows sales reps to grab permalinks for PDF assets,” Harding said. “They can quickly access relevant collateral for customers before or after sales meetings or in response to follow-up questions.”
Access rights are tailored to reduce errors, ensuring direct sales teams and external distribution partners use the appropriate content to promote products.
